Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre

Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate abused, neglected and abandoned horses, ponies and donkeys, while campaigning for the better treatment of animals across Spain. We are a no-kill foundation and provide each rescued animal with a safe and loving sanctuary – either here at our centre or via rehoming – for the rest of their lives.

Rescued: October 21, 2009

Bronte was 12 when she came to live at our centre, and her placement in our care was not because she was neglected or abused, but because she had owners who cared very much for her.

She is a well-bred competition horse who originally came over to Spain from the UK with two other horses named Hannah and Rhani. Hannah was actually Bronte’s mother and was 24 at the time, while Rhani was 14 years old.

The owners of these three horses later became seriously ill with life-threatening diseases and were forced to return to the UK. Unable to afford to transport their three horses back with them, the owners also had nowhere to house them even if they did manage to get them home.

Concerned for the welfare of their horses, they approached our centre to see if we could help.

Ordinarily, we don’t take equines simply because their owners no longer want them. We believe the best way we can help push animal welfare forward in Spain is by using our meagre resources to work with police on cases of abuse and neglect, sending a strong message that mistreatment will not be tolerated.

However, with a risk these three beautiful horses would simply be put down, we agreed to take them and promised to give them the best care possible.

Hannah and Rhani have both since passed away, but Bronte has developed a strong relationship with big Akim, our largest and grumpiest horse.

Funnily enough, while Akim refuses to live with any other horses, he has taken a keen liking to Bronte – and a host of donkeys! The pair now share their field with donkeys Franky, Dulce Dawn and Minty Monty. They are all very happy together.

Bronte is now available for adoption and would likely suit being a companion horse, as she does occasionally suffer from seasonal epileptic fits. She was ridden very lightly when she was young, but has not been ridden for years.

Interested in giving Bronte her new forever home? Please visit our adoption page to begin your application.

As a non-profit foundation staffed almost entirely by volunteers, we rely on your donations to continue our work to save horses like Bronte and to cover their ongoing feeding and care costs. Find out how you can help here.
