Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre

Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate abused, neglected and abandoned horses, ponies and donkeys, while campaigning for the better treatment of animals across Spain. We are a no-kill foundation and provide each rescued animal with a safe and loving sanctuary – either here at our centre or via rehoming – for the rest of their lives.

EHC Rescue Centre desperately needs a new vehicle

We desperately need a new vehicle to pull our horse trailer and continue rescuing equines in Spain.

Our 25-year-old Nissan has done a fantastic job over the years and helped us save more than 180 abused or abandoned horses, ponies and donkeys since the creation of Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre in 2008.

Nevertheless, bits and parts are now constantly breaking down: stuck windows, lights, brake lights, starting problems… all the electrical system is falling apart and it regularly has to stay immobilised for days at the garage. It is a constant struggle to keep it working properly, looking for replacement pieces in scrapyards as they don’t manufacture these parts due to it being such an old vehicle.
We are extremely worried that it could break down at any time, leaving us unable to collect animals in need or take them to the Alicante horse hospital in case of an emergency.
Another major problem is that due to its old age, our car has got a high emission rate. This means that we are no longer allowed to drive in certain parts of Spain. As a consequence, we wouldn't be able to transport a sick animal to Barcelona where we work with one of the more qualified equine surgeons in Spain, Gasper Castelijns, who has saved the lives of some of our more desperate cases.
We need a robust second-hand 4-wheel drive able to pull a two-place horse trailer and big enough to transport everything we need: horse feed bags, woodshavings, construction materials, etc.
Here are some examples of the kind of vehicle that is essential for us to be able to run the rescue centre:
We are a small, grassroots non-profit and receive no government funding, so we can only continue rescuing horses, ponies and donkeys and pushing for better animal welfare laws in Spain through the generosity of our supporters. Thank you so much for your support!
