Fourth charity shop opens
Judging from the photos it looks more like a show room, but this isn't a furniture store, this is the fourth Easy Horse Care Charity Shop, which opened on Monday in a blaze of glory in La Zenia.
It is the first shop for the Rescue Centre on the Orihuela Costa and the biggest one to date being situated in Centro Commercial Zeniamar in Calle Maestro Torralba.
Manager Vicky who has been a volunteer with Easy Horse Care since last September having previously worked in the La Siesta store, is delighted with the finished shop and spent all the previous week dressing it and getting it ready for its opening.
"We have been collecting furniture for some months now but did not have the space previously in our other shops so when this unit became available it was the ideal location and size for all the furniture we have."
From beds and sofas to dining tables and coffee sets there is some quality items at amazingly low prices so it was no wonder that as the doors opened at 10am on Monday 11th June there was already people outside waiting who had their eyes on some bargains.
It marked a great start to what is hoped will be another successful charity store and bring in vital funds for Easy Horse Care.
"These charity shops are our lifeline," explains co-founder Sue Weeding.
"Just last week we had a call from a guy call on holiday in Almeria and he had come across a stable and found horses just left there starving. Rather than call the Rescue Centre he called a volunteer at one of the shops so as well as bringing in the funds we need to be able to help get those horses out of there, the charity shops are now proving a direct link between the public and the Centre. Our aim is not just to open shops and bring in instant funds, it is about building a legacy and a heritage that can continue for years to come, long after we have gone so that the Rescue Centre can live on."
The new La Zenia store is currently looking for volunteers to help in the shop which is open from Monday to Friday 10am-4pm and Saturdays from 10am-2pm.
"I would like to thank the volunteers we have had here helping out today," says Vicky, "and we welcome all new volunteers and any donations of furniture, bric a brac or clothes."
House clearances can now also be carried out so any unwanted furniture can and will be, gratefully received and collected. For more information or to volunteer call Vicky on 636 062 000.
The official launch is taking place on Monday 25th June from midday where visitors can grab a bargain, donate unwanted items or simply enjoy the entertainment with Sunshine FM DJ Simon Morton. There is the chance to meet Tafetta, win a food hamper and name the shop's horse mascot.
