Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre

Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate abused, neglected and abandoned horses, ponies and donkeys, while campaigning for the better treatment of animals across Spain. We are a no-kill foundation and provide each rescued animal with a safe and loving sanctuary – either here at our centre or via rehoming – for the rest of their lives.

When we first heard about Napoleon, he was being used to pull a cart that was far too heavy for such a small pony. His owners used to bash him over the head with a lump of wood if he didn’t gallop as fast as they wanted.

We got the Almoradi police involved, but Napoleon’s owners began moving him every night to avoid us.

Finally, six months later, police called us out to rescue two little minis. Officers told us to hurry as it was a dangerous situation and we needed to get the ponies out quickly before their owners returned. To our amazement, we saw that one pony was Napoleon – the very mini we had tried to save earlier in the year.

We found Napoleon in an absolutely horrendous state of starvation. He was tied to a thorn bush beside another pony named Nelson, while nearby two were two more horses named Sophia and Jacob. All four had no food, water or shelter. They were covered with ticks and fleas. A thorn had actually gone into Nelson’s eye and it had just dried up like a prune – we later had to surgically remove it.

We were able to rescue all four of these equines and bring them back to our centre, where they finally began receiving proper care. We actually kept them hidden for six months because we feared for their safety.

Napoleon is now fabulous – a little overweight but fabulous. He has really beautiful bright blue eyes and loves playing chasey with his best friend Cruz. Together, they belt around the paddock, playing all day, often at a flat out gallop!
