Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre

Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate abused, neglected and abandoned horses, ponies and donkeys, while campaigning for the better treatment of animals across Spain. We are a no-kill foundation and provide each rescued animal with a safe and loving sanctuary – either here at our centre or via rehoming – for the rest of their lives.

2012 Nov The Great Escape

Two years ago Rojales resident, Dave Walsh, looked out of his window to see two pigs on the loose. The only people he could think of to call were Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre, who managed to catch one of them and named her Penelope and successfully re-homed her. Imagine his surprise when two years later he looked out of his window overlooking the Three Crosses in Rojales and saw a lone pony at the top of the hill. Once again he turned to Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre for help. Co-Founder Sue Weeding and volunteer Miranda immediately responded, taking with them one horse halter, ready to secure the pony and assess the situation. Upon their arrival Dave was anxiously waiting at the bottom of the hill and informed them that now there were two. Sue and Miranda climbed to the top of the hill, managed to catch the first pony, the second more miniature pony, upon seeing the capture of his friend came out from under the bush where he was hiding and climbed over a small wall, desperate to stay with his friend. Luckily Miranda was wearing a scarf which she utilised as a horse halter. It was established that there was no body responsible for the two ponies, the local police were consulted and gave full permission for the ponies to be taken to the centre as neither of them are micro-chipped. Both were extremely malnourished, the smaller of the two, since named Cruz, had been blinded in one eye with a sharp implement. He had a head collar made of bail twine that had cut deep grooves into his face, due to his malnutrition he is slightly deformed and was so full of worms that he was struggling to breathe as they were pressing on his small lungs. The larger pony, has been named Rocky, due to Sylvester Stallone's performance in the Rocky films running up the steps, similar to the step in Rojales where he led his little friend to freedom, as we must assume that they had escaped from a terrible place. They are now receiving all the medical care, attention and love that they need to aid their recovery. You are all welcome to come and visit them on our Open Day which is every Sunday 1 till 4. Sunday roasts are now available with many other tasty home-made treats including vegetarian options, and of course the very popular horse tour where you can meet all our rescues and hear their stories.
We hope everyone will join us at our Christmas Carol concert here at the Rescue Centre on 14th December starts at 6.30pm.
