Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre

Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate abused, neglected and abandoned horses, ponies and donkeys, while campaigning for the better treatment of animals across Spain. We are a no-kill foundation and provide each rescued animal with a safe and loving sanctuary – either here at our centre or via rehoming – for the rest of their lives.

Healthy foal born at Rojales horse rescue centre

Arthur 3 and a half days oldThe Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre has welcomed a healthy foal into the world, in a happy ending to a terrible case of animal abuse and neglect.
The little colt, named Arthur, was born late on March 29 to proud mum Guinevere, one of three terribly thin mares and a stallion rescued from Granada last December.
“The owner of these horses was a breeder and because of the financial crisis he literally stopped feeding them. The police prosecuted and then a court order was raised and we were asked to bring them here all the way from Granada,” rescue centre co-founder Sue Weeding said.
The rescue was a joint operation with Malaga-based rescue charity El Refugio del Burrito, which took at least four donkeys into custody. All animals found at the Granada property were severely malnourished and at least one dead foal was found.
“We were very apprehensive about this birth because the mare really was in a terrible condition when she arrived three months ago but, with the good food and nutrition she has received since, little Arthur looks to have arrived safe and well,” Sue said.
“Another of the Granada mares, Morgana, is due to give birth in the next few weeks and we all have our fingers crossed that her birth will go well, too.”
Donations and sponsorships to help continue this important work are gratefully welcomed. Every cent donated or spent in the rescue centre’s network of eight charity shops across the Alicante province goes towards the feeding and care of the more than 90 horses, ponies and donkeys that live at the centre.
Donations of furniture, clothing and bric-a-brac to stock the shops are welcome. Please call 652 021 980 for more information about furniture pick-ups and volunteering.
The Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre opens to the public for free on the first Sunday of every month between 1pm and 4pm. The first horse tour begins at 2pm.
